Did you know that the word 'Orange' is the name of the fruit and not the color?

Quite surprised to learn this fact today. What’s more funny is that the actual color was called as geoluread (yellow-red) in English. For all this time, I’ve been thinking that the fruit was named ‘Orange’ after its color. Another interesting fact according to Wikipedia is that the word has its root from Indian languages. Can any Indians confirm this?

This is damn interesting! Adding on the fact about languages, I think it’s rooted from South Indian languages, possibly Tamil (my native language). As the wiki says (no citations), in Tamil, people used to call it as Naram. However, I never hear anyone calling it that way in India now. There is a possibility that the Arabs might’ve gotten it from the Indian languages. I think it’s quite the same in Spanish too.
